Lincs 1sts stage a major comeback to win the Anglian League title
Having lost their first match of the season, at Waltham Windmill to defending champions Leics & Rutland by 6.5-5.5, and trailing Northants by 3-1 after the morning foursomes at Wellingborough in match 2, the outlook for the rest of the campaign was not looking great.
However, from that point, the team performed exceptionally well. First of all they made a superb recovery at Wellingborough to win the match 6.5-5.5.
Match 3 resulted in a solid 8-4 victory over Cambs at Sleaford. Match 4 then saw the team visiting Norfolk, who along with Lincs were in a 4-way tie at the top of the league, at Royal Cromer. A stunning victory by 7.5-4.5 put paid to Norfolk's title aspirations and left a 3-way tie at the top, going into the final round of matches....Northants (pts diff +13), Lincs (+7) and L&R (-2).
Match day 5 saw L&R defeat Northants 7-5 which put them on 8pts with a pts diff of 0. Lincs meanwhile were in Suffolk, at Newton Green, notching up an emphatic 9-3 victory to secure the title, also with 8 pts, but with a far superior pts diff of +13.
Congratulations to Captain Steve Brattan (Cleethorpes) and all the players involved throughout the season.
The 2nd Team, with 2 victories, 2 halved matches & 1 loss , finished as Runners Up in their league... Well done to Team Captain Jeff Flindall and all of those who participated over the season.
