Competition Rules


JF BRAMLEY TROPHY

1. To be eligible to enter a club must be affiliated to the Lincolnshire Union of Golf Clubs.
2. In addition each player in the club team must: –
a) be of amateur status as defined by the R & A.
b) be a current member of the affiliated club, and in the case of multiple club memberships, be his nominated club for ALL representative county competitions, club matches and league matches, during the current year/playing season.
3. Each club team will consist of 3 players.
4. In the event of a club failing to field a side the match will be awarded to the opposing side.
5. Play will be Singles Matchplay, off scratch as follows:
a) In rounds prior to the final over 18 holes with each individual game being played to a winning conclusion, i.e. 4/3, 2/1, @20th, etc, until a club has recorded at least 2 winning game results.
b) In the final over 36 holes (max) with the overall result being determined by applying the following, in order, until a clear result exists:
i) Total game points including halved games.
ii) Nett total holes up.
iii) Match result between tied teams.
iv) Nett total holes up between tied teams.
6. Matches will be played on the dates as set out on the county fixture list.
7. In the event of a cancellation due to inclement weather the match will be replayed on a date mutually agreeable to both parties and within 14
days of the original fixture date. The Competition Secretary must be informed of the cancellation and of the new date chosen for the match.
8. All competitors will be required to play with golf balls which are on the current R & A list.
9. All competitors must comply with Rule 4.1 – Form and Make of Clubs. The players clubs must conform with the rule and the provisions, specifications and interpretations therein.
10. Competitors must walk at all times during a stipulated round. The use of buggies will be prohibited unless supported by medical certificate.
11. Mobile phones: Use of mobile phones: As per England Golf Policy.
12. The final will be played at Seacroft Golf Club on Sunday 18th August 2019


THE ELSHAM TROPHY

1. To be eligible to enter, a club must be affiliated to the Lincolnshire Union of Golf Clubs.
2. In addition each player in the club team must:-
(a) be of amateur status as defined by the R & A.
(b) be a current member of the affiliated club, and in the case of multiple club memberships, be his nominated club for ALL representative county competitions, club matches and league matches, during the current year/playing season.
3. Each club team will consist of 6 players (3 pairs).
4. In the event of a club failing to field a side the match will be awarded to the opposing side.
5. Play will be 18 holes of Foursomes Matchplay, off scratch and ALL games must play the full 18 holes. The aggregate score of the three games will determine the winner.
6. In the event of a tie, each team will nominate one of their pairs for a sudden death playoff.
7. Matches will be played on the dates as listed on the county fixture list.
8. In the event of a cancellation due to inclement weather the match will be replayed on a date mutually agreeable to both parties and within 14 days of the original fixture date. The Competition Secretary must be informed of the cancellation and of the date of the re-arranged match.
9. The ball used must be named on the current R & A list of conforming golf balls.
10. All competitors must comply with Rule 4.1 (Form and Make of Clubs). The players clubs must conform with this rule and the provisions, specifications and interpretations therein.
11. Competitors must walk at all times during a stipulated round. The use of buggies will be prohibited unless supported by medical certificate.
12. Mobile phones: Use of mobile phones: As per England Golf Policy.
13. The finals will be played at Elsham Golf Club on Sunday 11th AUGUST 2019


THE LINCOLNSHIRE SENIORS CHAMPIONSHIP.

1. To be eligible to enter a competitor must comply with the Lincolnshire Union of Golf Clubs qualifications, namely:-
(a) he must be of Amateur Status as defined by the R & A.
(b) he must be a member of an affiliated club in the County Union or must have been born in the county and be a member of an affiliated club in another county.
(c) he must not have taken part in a golf championship of another County Union during the calendar year.
Entrants must have attained the age of 55 years ON or BEFORE the day of the championship.
Handicaps must not exceed 14.4 on the date of entry and must be active.
4. Entries will be placed in groups as follows:
GROUP A age 55 – 59 GROUP B age 60 – 64 GROUP C age 65 – 69 GROUP D age 70 plus.
5. Where entries are excessive, theywill be reduced as follows:
(a) higher handicaps (exact) will be set aside.
(b) any ties for last place(s) will be decided by ballot.
(c) players eliminated will be placed on a waiting list in handicap (exact) order.
6. All competitors must comply with Rule 4.1 (Form and Make of Clubs). The players clubs must conform with this rule and the provisions, specifications and interpretations therein.
7. Competitors will be required to play with golf balls, which are on the current R & A list.
8. Any competitor who is not present on his allotted starting tee when called upon to start will be disqualified.
9. Competitors must walk at all times during a stipulated round. The use of buggies will be prohibited unless supported by medical certificate.
10. In the event of a tie for the championship a sudden death play-off will take place.
11. Mobile phones: Use of mobile phones: As per England Golf Policy.
12. All disputes will be settled by the Championship Committee whose decision will be final.


THE LINCOLNSHIRE AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

1. To be eligible to enter an amateur competitor must comply with the Lincolnshire Union of Golf Clubs qualifications which include:-
(a) he must be of amateur status as defined by the R & A.
(b) he must be a member of an affiliated Club in the County Union or must have been born in the county and be a member of an affiliated Club in another county.
(c) he must not have taken part in a golf championship of another County Union during the current calendar year.
2. Handicaps must not exceed 5.4 on the date of entry and must be active.
3. Champion Club Qualifier – Each club may nominate up to 3 players to compete to represent Lincolnshire in the Champion Club competition.
Best two aggregate scores to count.
4. All competitors must comply with Rule 4.1 (Form and Make of Clubs). The players clubs must conform with this rule and the provisions, specifications and interpretations therein.
5. All competitors will be required to play with golf balls which are on the current R & A list.
6. Entries will be limited to 60 (and ties). Where entries are excessive, theywill be reduced as follows:-
(a) higher handicaps (exact) will be set aside.
(b) any ties for last place will be decided by ballot.
(c) players eliminated will be placed on a waiting list in exact handicap order.
7. Competitors must walk at all times during a stipulated round. The use of buggies will be prohibited unless supported by medical certificate.
8. In the event of a tie for the Championship and/or the M. Lee Salver, a sudden death play-off will take place.
9. No competitor may receive more than one prize in the Amateur Championship.
10. Mobile phones: Use of mobile phones: As per England Golf Policy.
11. All disputes will be settled by the Championship Committee whose decision will be final.


THE SIR HENRY LUNN SHIELD TEAM COMPETITION

1. To be eligible to enter a club must be affiliated to the Lincolnshire Union of Golf Clubs. In addition each player in the club team must be:-
(a) of amateur status as defined by the R & A.
(b) be a current member of the affiliated club, and in the case of multiple club memberships, be his nominated club for ALL representative county competitions, club matches and league matches, during the current year/playing season.
2. The Shield will be competed for by teams of 3 players and the aggregate of the three 36 hole scores will decide the winning Club. Any ties will be resolved by a card playoff.
3. A Club may enter 1 team, individual handicaps must not exceed 12.4, and must be active.
4. In the event of excessive entries, competing teams will be decided by ballot. The current holders and the host club will be exempt from the ballot.
5. If a player is not present on his starting tee, when called upon to start, he will be disqualified.
6. The ball used must be named on the current R & A list.
7. All competitors must comply with Rule 4.1 (Form and Make of Clubs). The players clubs must conform with this rule and the provisions, specifications and interpretations therein.
8. Competitors must walk at all times during a stipulated round. The use of buggies will be prohibited unless supported by medical certificate.
9. Mobile phones: Use of mobile phones: As per England Golf Policy.


LINCOLNSHIRE POACHER

1.To be eligible to enter, competitors must:
be of amateur status as defined by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews.
Have an active handicap of 5.4, or less
2. Where entries are excessive, a ballot of the higher (exact) handicaps will take place with those eliminated being placed on a reserve list, in order.
3. Unless a player is on the reserve list, there will be no refunds if a player withdraws from the event after the closing date for entries.
4. In the event of a tie for first place a sudden death play-off shall take place over holes decided by the competition committee. Any other ties will be decided by a card play-off.
5. All competitors will be required to play with golf balls which are on the Royal and Ancient Golf Club List of conforminggolf balls current at the date of the tournament.
6. All competitors must comply with Rule 4.1 (Form and Make of Clubs). The players clubs must conform with this rule and the provisions, specifications and interpretations therein.
7. Any competitor who is not present on his allotted starting tee when called upon to start, shall be disqualified.
8. Competitors must walk at all times during a stipulated round. The use of buggies will be prohibited unless supported by medical certificate.
9. Mobile phones: Use of mobile phones: As per England Golf Policy.
10. All disputes shall be settled by the championship committee, whose decision shall be final.


SENIOR AMATEUR MATCHPLAY CHAMPIONSHIP

1. To be eligible to enter a competitor must comply with the Lincolnshire Union of Golf Clubs qualifications, namely: –
(a) he must be of amateur status as defined by the R & A.
(b) he must be a member of an affiliated Club in the County Union or must have been born in the county and be a member of an affiliated Club in another county.
(c) entrants must have attained the age of 55 years before the closing date for the competition (4th March 2019).
(d) he must not have taken part in a golf championship of another County Union during the calendar year.
Entrants must not exceed 12.4 (active) handicap on the date of entry although exemption will be given to any player who finished in the top 20 (gross) of the LUGC Seniors Championship of 2017 and 2018, providing their handicap is still ‘active’.
3. Where entries are excessive, theywill be reduced as follows:
(a) higher handicaps (exact) will be set aside.
(b) any ties for last place(s) will be decided by ballot.
(c) players eliminated will be placed on a waiting list in handicap (exact) order.
4. All matches in the Matchplay Championship will be played off scratch, and all preliminary/Round 1 losers will go into the draw for the Plate (Consolation) Competition.
5. All matches within the Plate competition will be played off handicap (full difference).
6. The Draw(s), which will be on the LUGC Website, will be updates asap following notification of results and no later than a couple of days after each specified round completion date.
7. Matches will be arranged between the competitors and if a green fee is charged the cost should be shared between the two players.
8. All competitors must comply with Rule 4.1 (Form and Make of Clubs). The players clubs must conform with this rule and the provisions, specifications and interpretations therein.
9. Competitors will be required to play with golf balls, which are on the current R & A list.
10. Competitors must walk at all times during a stipulated round. The use of buggies will be prohibited unless supported by medical certificate.
11. Mobile phones: Use of mobile phones: As per England Golf Policy.
12. All disputes will be settled by the Championship Committee whose decision will be final.


THE HOTCHKIN AND TAYLOR AND BUTLIN CHALLENGE CUPS FOR THE CLUB CHAMPIONS COMPETITION

1.All clubs affiliated to the LUGC are invited to enter:
a) their Club Gross Champion (gross), or nominee, to play in a scratch strokeplay competition for the Butlin Challenge cup, and
b) their Club Champion (Nett), or nominee, to play in a handicap strokeplay competition for the Hotchkin Challenge Cup.
The aggregate of both nett scores will contest the Taylor Challenge Cup.
Any ties will be decided by a card play-off.
2. In addition each player in the club team must be:-
a) of amateur status as defined by the R & A.
b) be a current member of the affiliated club, and in the case of multiple club memberships, be his nominated club for ALL representative county competitions, club matches and league matches, during the current year/playing season.
c) not exceed 18.4 handicap.
If both entrants are nominees, the lower of the two handicaps will contest the Scratch event.
3. If there are excessive entries, the field will be reduced by a ballot of nominees first, then by handicap. The current holders and the host club will be exempt from any ballot.
4. The ball used must be named on the current R & A list.
5. All competitors must comply with Rule 4.1 (Form and Make of Clubs). The players clubs must conform with this rule and the provisions, specifications and interpretations therein.
6. If a player is not present on his starting tee, when called upon to start, he will be disqualified.

OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP

1. To be eligible to enter, Amateur Competitors must comply with the Lincolnshire Union of Golf Clubs’ qualifications which include: –
a) be of Amateur Status as defined by the R&A.
b) be a member of a Club affiliated to the LUGC or have been born in Lincolnshire and be a member of a Club affiliated to another County Union.
c) not have taken part in a golf championship of another County Union during the current calendar year.
d) have an active handicap of 5.4, or less.
2. Entry will be limited to 66 players and if the number is exceeded, a ballot of the higher (exact) Handicaps will take place with those eliminated being placed on a reserve list, in order.
3. Unless a player is on the reserve list, there will be no refunds if a player withdraws from the event after the closing date for entries.
4. In the event of a tie for the championship a sudden death play-off will take place.
5. All competitors will be required to play with golf balls which are on the current R & A list.
6. All competitors must comply with Rule 4.1 (Form and Make of Clubs). The players clubs must conform with this rule and the provisions, specifications and interpretations therein.

THE 9 HOLE CLUB COMPETITION (Rita Hurst Salver)

1. All Nine Hole Clubs, affiliated to the LUGC, are invited to enter a maximum of 2 teams of 4 players for this event.
2. The aggregate of the best 3 scores from each team will count
3. Any ties will be decided initially by the score of the other team member, then by a card playoff of all 4 scores
4. Individual team members must:-
a) be of amateur status as defined by the R & A.
b) have an active handicap that does not exceed 18.4
c) in the case of multiple club memberships, have nominated your Club as the one to represent in all LUGC events and leagues, throughout the current season.
5. A competitor who is not present on his starting tee when called upon to start will be disqualified.
6. The ball used must be named on the current List of Conforming Golf Balls issued by the R &A.
7. All competitors must comply with Rule 4.1 (Form and Make of Clubs). The players clubs must conform with this rule and the provisions, specifications and interpretations therein.
8. Competitors must walk at all times during a stipulated round. The use of buggies will be prohibited unless supported by medical certificate.
9. Mobile phones: Use of mobile phones: As per England Golf Policy.
10. All disputes shall be settled by the championship committee whose decision shall be final.


JUBILEE CHALLENGE MIXED TROPHY

The event is designed to be an end of season celebration for Men’s and Lady Club Captains, and Vice Captains, and all Clubs affiliated to the LUGC are invited to enter a team of 4 players (2x mixed better ball pairs). If one or more of the above are unable to play a ‘nominee’ may be entered (preferably another individual who serves the Club e.g. a Committee member).
Entrants must:
be of Amateur Status as defined by the R&A
have an active handicap which must not exceed 24.4 for men, and 36.4 for ladies.
In the case of excessive entries, there will be a ballot of Nominees initially, then by Handicap. The holders, and host Club will be exempt from any ballot.
All competitors must comply with Rule 4.1 (Form and Make of Clubs). The players clubs must conform with this rule and the provisions, specifications and interpretations therein.
Competitors must walk at all times during a stipulated round. The use of buggies will be prohibited unless supported by medical certificate.
Mobile phones: Use of mobile phones: As per England Golf Policy.
Disputes will be settled by the competitions committee whose decision will be final.
If two or more teams tie for places the order will be decided by a card play-off.
Play will be from the yellow tees for men and red tees for ladies.


THE PRESIDENT’S TROPHY

a) The event is designed to give young and promising players a chance to compete against the best County Players.
b) The event shall be played over 18 holes of stroke play.
c) The Junior Team Managers will invite a number of players to take part
Age 21 and under – handicap 4.4 or lower
d) The Executive Committee may select additional competitors.
e) On the same day all Club Captains shall be invited as guests of the Union to play in a Fourball Betterball Competition and to High Tea afterwards, when matters of general interest will be discussed. In this way a closer relationship between Member Clubs and the Union will be fostered.


THE LINCOLNSHIRE AMATEUR MATCH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP.

a) The leading  4 players who are available will qualify for the Match Play Championship
b) The Semi Finals and Final shall take place at Woodhall Spa Golf Club on President’s Day.
c) The winner shall hold the R. L. Bacon Trophy until the next Competition and shall retain a memento presented by the Union. The prizes to be awarded shall be determined by the Executive Committee.
d) The Hon. Competitions Secretary shall prepare draw sheets and shall forward a copy to each competitor and to his Club.
e) The winner shall receive a President’s Tie.


LINCOLNSHIRE COUNTY PAIRS TROPHY

1. The event is a Men’s Better Ball Stableford format, with a 90% Handicap Allowance for each player.
2. To be eligible to enter both players must:-
(a) be of amateur status as defined by the R & A.
(b) be over 18 years of age on 1st January 2019
(c) each have an active handicap of 20.4 (max) at the date of entering’, and a playing handicap of 20 (max) on the event date.
3. Entries will be limited to 60 pairs and, should the number be exceeded, they will be reduced as follows:
(a) higher combined handicaps (exact) will be set aside
(b) any ties for last place will be decided by ballot.
(c) players eliminated will be placed on a waiting list in exact handicap order.
4. Entry fees will not be refunded if a pair withdraw their entry after the closing date, unless they are on the Reserve List.
5. In the event of a tie for the Championship a card play-off will apply.
6. All competitors must comply with Rule 4.1 (Form and Make of Clubs). The players clubs must conform with this rule and the provisions, specifications and interpretations therein.
7. All competitors will be required to play with golf balls which are on the current R & A list.
8. Competitors must walk at all times during a stipulated round. The use of buggies will be prohibited unless supported by medical certificate.
