England Men’s star Hopkins to turn professional and join Challenge Tour

England Men’s star Will Hopkins will be turning professional later this year as he prepares to join the Challenge Tour – feeder tour for the DP World Tour.
The Lincolnshire golfer, who plays at Belton Park, has received a Challenge Tour ranking, after finishing 10th in the inaugural Global Amateur Pathway Rankings 2024 (ran by the DP World Tour).
Hopkins, who won this year’s Lytham Trophy and represented England at the European Team Championships, Home Internationals, and in May’s biennial international match with France, will now look forward to playing on the professional circuit in the New Year.

Hopkins said: “It has been an honour to be a part of the England Men’s Squad. My golf game has undoubtedly gone up a level and that couldn’t have happened without the resources England Golf have provided for me.  Some of the fondest memories in my career have occurred over the past 12 months whilst wearing an England shirt and I’ll cherish them for a long time.
I want to say a big thank you to everyone at England Golf for their support and aid over the last 12 months. As a player, we’re given everything we need to be successful which is all you can ask for.
I am excited to use all that I’ve learned through my amateur career and refining it to hopefully have a long and successful career as a professional.”

England Golf Performance Director Nigel Edwards added: “Will really progressed during the last year, having won the Lytham Trophy, finished 3rd at the European Nations Cup at Sotogrande, 4th at the Master of the Amateurs in Australia, 7th at the St Andrews Links Trophy, and qualifying for the match play stages of the British Amateur Championship.
“He has been a role model for some of the younger members of our England Squads and he should be very proud of what he has achieved over the past year, both individually and as part of the England Team, and we wish him every success in his professional career.”

Lincolnshire Union of Golf Clubs would also like to thank Will for his contribution to Lincolnshire Golf not only as a member of the County Team but for Will's dedication to the county from the junior ranks aged 12 through to being a member off two England Golf County Finals teams.

The Boys Anglian League tri-match                    v Northamptonshire, Leicestershire & Rutland ended in a tie between Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire. The resultant sudden death playoff saw Lincolnshire's Jack Emery win at the third extra hole. Congratulations to him and the team who now play in the finals at Halesworth Golf Club, Suffolk on Monday 19th August.

58th LYTHAM TROPHY WIN FOR     WILL HOPKINS

The Belton Park golfer shot a final-round of -4 to set up a three-way play-off with Welsh duo Tomi Bowen and James Ashfield. The 24-year-old held his nerve to win in the three-hole play-off as he made a birdie on the 2nd after hitting a 185-yard approach to five feet for birdie.

After the four days of action, Lincolnshire’s Hopkins said: “I had a very shaky third round. I had to dig deep just to shoot 3-over. I sat with a sandwich and just told myself to go back to the basics of breathing, routine and rhythm. I reminded myself that Royal Lytham isn’t a golf course you can take on. I said: “Stay patient and let the opportunities come to you.”
“I hit a three-wood to eight feet (on the 7th) and that’s when I knew I was playing well. As I walked to the 11th green, I saw a leaderboard and suddenly I knew I had a chance.”
With four top-10s already this year, including 3rd at the European Nations Cup in Sotogrande, Spain, he added: “I had a chance to win in Spain, it just didn’t work out but I learned a big lesson. You’ve got to get used to those feelings and understand how you react. I’m very proud that when I had another chance, I took it.”

England Golf announce Men’s Squad for 2024

England Golf have named a 14-player squad ahead of the new season with nine new names included.

Eliot Baker, Ben Brown, Will Hopkins, Charlie Crockett, Matthew Dodd-Berry, Zach Little and Mark Stockdale join the squad, with Sam Easterbrook and Tyler Weaver making the step up from the England Boys’ Squad.

England Golf Men’s Squad Manager, Gareth Jenkins, said: “We have a number of new faces this year who have impressed across various championships and we’re looking forward to the year ahead where the players will receive England Golf training sessions with support from world-class coaches, and feature in competitive opportunities around the world in 2024.”

- Top-10 finishes at The Hal Williams Collegiate, The Johnnie-O at Sea Island and Tiger Intercollegiate (all USA)
- Part of the England team which won The R&A Men’s & Women’s Home Internationals
- Represented Lincolnshire at the English Men’s County Finals, where he was unbeaten in all six matches played
- Reached the quarter-finals of the English Men’s Amateur Championship before missing out through injury to eventual winner, Ben Brown
- Reached the last 16 of the R&A Amateur Championship.

                                   Adam Keogh Appointed Head Coach

The Lincolnshire Union of Golf Clubs has introduced a County Coaching structure, that includes County Men’s Squad, County Senior Players and an inclusive Junior Coaching Programme that gives a squad training process for promising players and helps young club golfers to develop their skills.

Adam Keogh will lead a team and develop a coaching programme to find the next generation of talented golfers through our pathway, to enable individuals to develop friendships, new skills and opportunities to compete on a county, regional and national level.

Since becoming a PGA member in 2013, Adam has developed his coaching skills to becoming one of the most renowned coaches in the region whilst also maintaining his own game to a high standard. Adam coaches golfers of all abilities, including complete beginners to elite amateurs and professionals. Adam’s the Lead Coach & Academy Manager at the England Golf Performance Centre.
