G D Smith
President of the LUGC 2007-2008

"My first year in office has passed extremely quickly. I have to say that having travelled the length and breadth of the County, East Anglia and the East MIdlands my geographical knowledge has been greatly enhanced.Nevertheless it has been a very enjoyable year and I have met many nice and interesting people and above all witnessed some extremely  fine golf.

Lincolnshire Golf had another extremely successful season retaining both the Anglian League first and second team titles. The Juniors won the Boys Anglian League qualifier only to be beaten in the final by the narrowest of margins.

On an individual basis Adam WAINWRIGHT (Gainsborough) and David COUPLAND (Boston) have both been selected for the England A Squad and James BURNETT (Sleaford) represented the England U16 team. David also qualified and took part in the Open at Carnoustie where he acquitted himself very well and represented both his club and Lincolnshire golf in outstanding fashion. Congratulations to all concerned.

We also have several other promising young golfers whom I feel sure will fill these pages for several years to come. Dare I say it but the future looks extremely rosy.

In my previous  report I made mention of County Golf Partnerships (A partnership of the County Union, PGA and the County Ladies). This is an initiative promulgated by the EGU which has now been adopted by numerous County Unions. The current situation in Lincolnshire is that talks are in progress between the partners and the EGU with a view of commencement in 2008.

In conclusion I look forward to meeting many of you in the year ahead and I wish you all a good and successful golfing season."
