President's Message
I cannot really believe that it is 12 months since I penned my first President’s message. The time has simply flown by. I have thoroughly enjoyed the past year. It is of course a very busy time especially once the golf season begins in earnest. The highlight of the year was the success of the Boys (Under 18’s) in winning the English Boys County finals, and for the first time ever. The first team retained the Eastern Counties Foursomes title in great style at Seacroft, and then narrowly missed winning the wooden spoon in the Anglian League. The second team continued to improve and finished runners up in their league. As a retired P.E. teacher , nothing gives me more pleasure and satisfaction than watching youngsters play sport well, and this past season I have seen this in abundance. The future of Lincolnshire golf is in capable hands.
I was delighted that the number of players and clubs entering county competitions last year was up on previous years, and I hope that this trend will continue.
The Lincolnshire Golf partnership is progressing well and is introducing newcomers to golf. Let us hope that these newcomers join local clubs and that the recent trend of falling membership numbers is turned around.
The county card scheme has also seen a fall in the number of cards issued by the Union each year. We hope to change that pattern by offering a chance to play at other golf courses outside Lincolnshire, at half price green fees. Please remember that all monies generated by the county cards is ploughed back into county golf.
The merger between the English Golf Union and the English Women’s Golf Association went ahead in December 2011 and now we are England Golf. County Unions are encouraged to join together . However it is not mandatory. We will discuss the future with the Lincolnshire Ladies to ascertain if there are benefits in our two associations combining.
I wish all Lincolnshire golfers an enjoyable and successful season.
