Eastern Inter County Foursomes May 15th/16th
Lincolnshire defend the title in record breaking style.
This weekend saw the annual Inter County Foursomes Shield take place at Seacroft Golf Club. With most of the regular First team players available for selection Lincolnshire were able to field a strong side of 10 players with combined handicaps of plus 8. The pairings selected were:
Patrick Kelly/Adam Keogh (7/8) James Burnett/Matt Veall (7/8) Liam Bell/Steve Brattan (5/8) Nathan Kimsey/Sam Sharpe (6.5/8) Ben Sheriff/Simon Richardson (7/8)
We secured 9 points out of 10 on the first round of matches, following up with 7 out of 10 in the afternoon to leave us half a point behind the leaders Bedfordshire. With an unchanged team for Sundays matches, we faced the leaders in the morning together with Suffolk and in taking 8 out of 10 points we took 4.5 points out of the leaders and stood 4 points ahead of the field at lunch. In previous years, the winning total has been around 24 points, so we had put ourselves in a very strong position. At that stage we knew that if we scored at least 6.5 points in the afternoon we couldn't be caught. With the first three pairings taking 6 out of 6, it was left to the last two pairs to take us over the finish line and they picked up 2.5 more points to secure victory and a total of 32.5 points. This total is the highest winning score in the competition and was achieved with some excellent golf against a field of quality players.

My thanks go to all of our officials who made sure the players were well fed and watered and offered support and encouragement to the players over the whole weekend.
